Jewelry should live where you live. Here's how each metal wears.
Solid gold, 14k and 18k
- Won't tarnish, won't discolor skin. Shower in it, sleep in it.
- Take it off for the pool and hot tub. Chlorine dulls gold over time.
- Gold is soft. Expect fine scratches with daily wear; a jeweler can polish them out in minutes.
- Clean with warm water, a drop of dish soap, and a soft toothbrush. Dry with a soft cloth.
Sterling silver, 925
- Won't turn skin green. May darken slowly over months, especially if stored in the open.
- A silver polishing cloth brings it back in under a minute. Wearing it often actually keeps it brighter.
- Store it in the Jarquín box or a closed pouch when you're not wearing it.
- Take it off for pools, hot tubs, and before applying lotion or perfume.
Gold vermeil, 14k gold over sterling silver
- A thick layer of real gold over solid silver. Not brass, not mystery metal.
- Keep it dry: off for showers, workouts, pools, and sleep. It will hold its color for years that way.
- Put it on last, after lotion and perfume. Wipe with a soft cloth after wearing.
- If the gold layer wears through, the piece is still solid silver underneath, and we can re-plate it.
Every piece
- Store pieces separately so chains don't tangle and stones don't scratch metal.
- Chains: hold the clasp, not the chain, when putting it on.
